Your First Visit to Salon True: What I Want You to Know

Walking into a new salon can feel a little intimidating.
You may be wondering whether your stylist will really listen to you, whether they will understand your vision, or whether you will leave feeling like yourself. You may have had an experience where your hair was pushed further than it should have been, you felt pressured into something you didn’t want, or the maintenance was never properly explained.
After more than 20 years behind the chair, I have heard these stories countless times.
When I created Salon True, I wanted to create a different kind of clean beauty salon in Calgary—one where beautiful hair, honest conversations and thoughtful product choices could exist together. I wanted guests to feel listened to, educated and cared for, without ever feeling that they had to compromise their well-being for beauty.
That experience begins the moment you book your first appointment.
Finding the Right Stylist for You

Salon True is home to a team of talented stylists, each with their own strengths, specialties and way of connecting with their guests.
Some of our stylists love dimensional blondes and brunettes. Others are passionate about precision cutting, grey blending, extensions or soft, low-maintenance hair that works beautifully in everyday life.
We also have different pricing levels within the salon. This gives our guests the opportunity to choose a stylist who aligns with their goals, personality, maintenance expectations and budget.
If you are unsure who to book with, please reach out.
You do not need to understand our entire service menu or know the technical name for what you want. Tell us about your hair, what you are hoping to achieve and what has or hasn’t worked for you in the past. We will help you decide where to begin.
Why We Spend So Much Time Talking About Your Hair
To me, a consultation is one of the most important parts of any appointment.
An inspiration photo can show us what catches your eye, but it doesn’t tell us your full story. It doesn’t tell us what colour is already underneath your current shade, how your hair responds to lightener, how often you want to return, or how much time you have to style your hair in the morning.
This is why we ask questions.
We want to know what you love about your hair and what has been frustrating you. We will talk about your previous colour, natural texture, scalp health, styling routine and the amount of maintenance that realistically fits into your life.
We may also ask what you don’t like about an inspiration photo. Sometimes that answer tells us even more than what you love about it.
Our job is not to copy a photograph. It is to understand what you are drawn to and translate that into something that complements your colouring, protects your hair and feels like you.
We Will Be Honest With You
One of the values I care about most at Salon True is honesty.
Sometimes the hair you are dreaming of can be created in one appointment. Sometimes it will take a series of appointments. Occasionally, the healthiest answer is that we should not attempt it yet.
Your previous colour, at-home treatments, henna, mineral buildup and the current integrity of your hair can all affect what is possible. If we believe a service could cause unnecessary damage, we will explain our concerns and help you create another path forward.
That could mean starting with a treatment, adjusting the shade, choosing a different technique or working toward your goal gradually.
I know it can be disappointing to hear that something may take longer than expected. But I would rather have an honest conversation with you than promise a transformation that your hair cannot safely support.
Your trust and the long-term health of your hair will always matter more to us than completing one dramatic appointment.
Your Hair Plan Should Fit Your Real Life
Beautiful hair is not truly beautiful if it only works on the day you leave the salon.
Your service plan should reflect your lifestyle, budget and the amount of maintenance you are comfortable committing to. There is no point in creating a colour that requires visits every six weeks if you only want to come in three times a year.
During your consultation, your stylist will explain what can realistically be achieved, how the result will grow out, how often it will need to be refreshed and what you can expect to invest in maintaining it.
Our colour formulas are customized and measured for every guest. The amount of product required may change depending on the length and density of your hair. We will review your service plan and expected investment with you before moving forward so that there are no uncomfortable surprises at the end of your appointment.
Why Our Product Choices Matter

Salon True was born from my own experience with the effects that years of working around traditional salon chemicals had on my health.
I didn’t want to leave an industry that I loved. I wanted to find a way to continue creating beautiful, high-performance hair colour while making more thoughtful choices for myself, my team and our guests.
That journey continues to shape every product and colour line we bring into the salon.
We look for professional products that align with our lower-toxicity approach without asking our guests to sacrifice performance. Our professional colour is formulated without ammonia, PPD and resorcinol, but I also believe that transparency is important.
Lower-toxicity does not mean that no one can ever experience a reaction. Every person is different. If you have allergies, sensitivities or a history of reacting to hair colour, please tell us before your appointment. We can arrange a skin test and have an honest conversation about whether our products are appropriate for you.
I never want clean beauty to be about fear or perfection. For me, it is about education, transparency and making thoughtful choices whenever we can.
What Your Appointment Will Feel Like
I want Salon True to feel warm, welcoming and personal.
Your stylist will guide you through the appointment, explain the process and answer your questions. You are always welcome to ask why we are recommending a particular technique, treatment, tone or product.
You do not need to make every technical decision—that is why we are here. But you should always feel included in the decisions being made about your hair.
Education is an important part of the Salon True experience. I want our guests to leave understanding their hair a little better than they did when they arrived.
Caring for Your Hair Between Visits
Before you leave, your stylist will show you how to maintain your hair at home and explain when your next appointment should take place.
We may recommend products to protect your colour, support your scalp, reduce breakage or make styling easier. These recommendations should never feel like a sales pitch or a list of products you are expected to buy.
Our role is to help you understand what will make the greatest difference. If you only want to begin with one product, we will help you choose the one that matters most.
Your home-care routine should be realistic, useful and suited to your hair—not something that sits untouched in your bathroom.
More Than One Beautiful Appointment
When I think about the future of Salon True, I don’t simply envision a beautiful salon filled with talented stylists. I envision a place where people feel known.
A place where your stylist remembers your hair history, understands your lifestyle and continues building on the plan you created together. A place where you can ask questions, trust the recommendations you receive and feel confident that the health of your hair is being considered at every step.
That is what clean luxury means to me.
It is not simply about the products on our shelves or how the salon looks. It is about being listened to, receiving honest guidance and knowing that every detail of your experience ha s been approached with care.
If you have been considering Salon True but aren’t sure where to begin, we would love to meet you. You can book your appointment by clicking the Book Now button or contact us directly, and we will help you find the right stylist and service.
